Programme Concepts and Content:
This programme was developed in response to the increasing number of at risk youth. Its focus is on producing youth that are clear on what current behaviours will result in and what positive lifestyle choices could produce for them. It introduces them to new activities, sparks dreams and aspirations and aligns them with the agencies that would support them to make those dreams a reality, whilst showing them new life within Te Ao Maori.
It is delivered by people that have similar life experiences who are passionate about our youth and consider them taonga to be nurtured with patience, understanding, respect and aroha whilst skilled enough to make positive life from changing impacts.
The Rakatahi Programme offers a culturally responsive programme for Maori to consider Maori culture as a pathway for solutions to:
Introduce and explore further self-awareness
Knowledge around who they are and where they come from
Address the underlying causes of negative lifestyle choices
Develop positive goals for the future
Enhancing their lives
